About Us

The emerging peony cut-flower industry in Alaska is based on three unique circumstances:  1) peonies grow well here; 2) they bloom at a time when they’re generally not available elsewhere; and 3) Alaska’s geographical location allows our fresh flowers to be quickly air freighted to U.S., European and Asian markets.  Our bloom period of late June through early August makes it possible to supply these highly desirable flowers to markets when there is little direct competition, providing potential for an expanding agricultural export industry in the state.

Our growers are located across the state from the communities of Fairbanks, North Pole and Nenana in the interior region of Alaska, throughout the Matanuska and Susitna Valleys near Anchorage in the south-central part of the state, and on the Kenai Peninsula south of Anchorage. Our membership is growing rapidly and our growers are actively increasing their planted stock. We invite new members to join us, either as growers or as supporting associates. To join just fill out a membership application and mail it in.

The goal of the Alaska Peony Growers Association is to promote and support all aspects of the peony industry in Alaska.  Our aim is to unite our members through cooperative exchange of technology and information, by supporting efficient commercial production and business practices, and in identification of premiere markets. We promote Alaska-based research and successful marketing strategies which support our grower/members in their production of high quality peonies for markets around the world.

Our current emphasis is on increasing awareness of opportunities in peony farming among potential new Alaskan growers, and on helping prospective flower buyers become familiar with Alaska peonies.  We hope this web site will assist in that effort.  We’re working closely with the Alaska Division of Agriculture and the University of Alaska to gather research data and information useful to our growers, and to develop international market contacts.  

This site is intended to make it easier for flower buyers and others to contact us and our grower/members, and is designed to help our members communicate with each other.  The site is a work in progress, but as it matures it will provide links to a broad spectrum of information sources for easy access by anyone interested in growing peonies in Alaska.

In the “Member’s Meeting Place” section of the site members will find market information, sources for purchasing rootstock and other supplies, Association business announcements, and a forum for interactive communication. Wholesale peony rootstock suppliers are encouraged to contact us for listing here, as are prospective peony cut flower buyers.
